Torch, Spring 1987: Centennial Issue

Centennial Convocation On January 26 , 1987 , 3,000 people gathered in the Robert Stranahan Gymnasium of the Athletic Center to celebrate the chartering of Cedarville College one hundred years ago. Dr. Warren Wiersbe , General Director of Back to the Bible Broadcast , delivered the Centennial Address , and Dr. Paul Dixon gave the Cen– tennial Challenge. Guests included delegates from 41 colleges and universities and Left to right: Dr. Paul Dixon , Dr . Warren Wiersbe, and Dr. James T. Jeremiah. many friends from businesses and government agencies. The College conferred honorary degrees on Dr. Wiersbe and, posthum– ously , upon the first presidents of the College , Dr. David McKinney and Dr. Wilbert McChesney . The Charter Day Concert featured the piano artistry of Stephen Nielson and Ovid Young who delighted the college family with a two-hour demonstration of their musical talents. To commemorate the Centennial, Cedarville College commissioned Mr. Young to compose a special piece , "Psalm Trilogy ," which was performed by the two pianists , the Symphonic Band , and the 80-voice Centennial Choir.
