r Campus News Dr. Merlin Ager, Chairman of the Education Department, recently visited five Cedarville education majors who are student teaching in the Alliance Academy in Quito , Ecuador. For the last few years, the department has added a global aspect to its program by placing student teachers in both Ecuador and the Philippines. Dr. John Silvius recently returned from a month-long stay in Cuzco , Peru, where he taught Field Biology to students involved in the ARRIBA program (Academic Residency and Research Internship for Baptists Abroad) . When parents of two alumni established a $150 ,000 fund to match alumni gifts and commitments for the new Library, alumni responded overwhelmingly. They gave or pledged over $170,000 to the project by the December 31, 1986, deadline . * * * "Old Main ," erected in 1895 at a cost of $14,000 and later referred to as the "Administration Building," has received yet another name. At the Charter Day Convocation on January 26, 1987, Dr. Paul Dixon announced that the nearly 100- year-old structure henceforth will be known as "Founders Hall." * * * The Admissions Office expects 700 new students to join our growing student body in the fall of 1987. * * * A new Prime 2655 computer, five times more powerful than the present administrative computer, soon will be on line to service the administrative needs of the college. Datatel Corporation is supplying the software . In June 1986, the Federal Communications Commission approved a power increase from 3,000 to 30 ,000 watts for WCDR-FM, the Cedarville College radio station . The added capability will enable WCDR to reach a potential of 350 ,000 more listeners or a total of one million people in the Dayton/ Springfield listening area. In order to keep on the FCC timetable , the station must order new equipment costing $70 ,000 by June 1987. TORCH readers are invited to have a part in the financing of this project. * * * Cedarville College will host the Ninth Annual Salute to Summer July 9-11 , 1987 . Each year , several hundred high school students enjoy seminars and other activities at Cedarville College and a day at Kings Island. * * * Watch for the release this spring of A Century ofCommitment , a new history of Cedarvi ll e College penned by Dr. J . Murray Murdoch , Chairman of the Department of Social Science and History at the college. Published by Jostens Publications, the book was commissioned by the Centennial Committee .
