Torch, Spring 1990

Our requirement that all our gradu– ates minor in Bible is immovable. Does this add to the already rigorous course load in engineering, nursing, premed, prelaw, and other majors? Yes! But our number one stated objective is "to undergird the student in the fundamentals of the Christian fai th, and to stimulate him to evaluate knowledge in the light of scriptural truth." Chapel is the heartbeat of every Christian college. If you want to see the direction of any Christian institu– tion of higher learning, show up in chapel. At Cedarville College it will continue to be required of students and faculty on a daily basis. I am committed to making the planning of those chapels one of my chief priorities. Those who will stand behind our pulpit to preach will believe the eternal, inerrant Textbook. Martin Luther, commenting about Hebrews 10:7 ("in the volume of the book it is written of me"), asked, "What Book and what Person? There is only one Book-Scripture-and only one Person-Jesus Christ." This issue of Cedarville TORCH focuses upon that unchanging written Word that reveals the everlasting Liv– ing Word, Jesus Christ. The Book of the Ages is the Book for Cedarville College. We are in a new decade and almost ready to enter a new millennium. I invite you to campus to see the marvel– ous changes that are taking place in preparation for our future. To God be the glory. One thing will not change about Cedarville. If the Lord tarries , we will continue to fulfill the mission of the College as we remain faithful to the ageless Book of Books.
