MURDOCH NAMED TO NAIA HALL OF FAME T he National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has elected Cedarville College men's tennis coach J. Murray Murdoch to its Hall of Fame. Dr. Murdoch is a professor of history at Cedarville and chairs the Department of Social Sciences and History. He authored Portrait of Obedience, a biography of Dr. Robert T. Ketcham, and Cedarville College: A Century ofCommitment. Cited for his high ideals of intercollegiate athletics and fine moral character as well as the achievement of his teams, Dr. Murdoch was inducted May 17 during ceremonies at the NAIA National Tennis Championships in Kansas City, Missouri. In his 26 years as coach, the men's tennis teams have compiled a 513-63 record with 21 NAIA District 22 championships and 22 Mid-Ohio Conference (MOC) titles. Cedarville teams played in 24 NAIA national tournaments, placing 8th in 1989. PROFESSORS RECEIVE PROMOTIONS T he trustees of Cedarville College recently approved promotions for the following professors: Galen Smith to associate professor of economics, Dr. J. Wesley Baker to professor of communication arts, Dr. Charles Dolph to professor of psychology, and Dr. Dennis Flentge to professor of chemistry. Dr. Carolyn Carlson, professor of nursing, and Deborah Haffey, assistant professor of communication arts, received tenure. CE ARVILLE GRADUATES 418 D r. Paul Dixon, president of Cedarville College, will address the 418 graduates, their families , and friends at the 96th Annual Commencement, Saturday, June 6. The graduation exercises will take place in the Stranahan Gymnasium of the Athletic Center. ORENSICS TEAM REPEATS AS STATE CHAMPS F or the third consecutive year, the Cedarville College forensics team won the Ohio forensics (speech competition) title. Team members took first place in nine categories. Senior communications major Jodi Culp of DeWitt, Michigan was a triple champion, placing first in Persuasion, Informative Speaking, and Impromptu Speaking. O ver 100 members of the college family will share their faith in countries around the world this summer through the Missionary Internship Service program (MIS). Medical missions teams will go to the Ivory Coast and Alaska. Four teams will travel to Eastern Europe, three to Romania and one to Hungary. Other European teams include those going to England, Germany, Portugal, and Spain. Teams and individuals wiJI also minister in Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, and the Philippines.
