Forensics Produces Champions C edarville College forensics team members continued their winning tradition in the 1995 Ohio Forensics Association varsity and novice tournaments. In varsity competition, senior Jeremy Grinnell took first place in two events: Poetry and Programmed Oral Interpretation. In the novice tournament, three sophomores were state champions. Eric Sorenson won in three events: Informative, Communication Analysis, and Programmed Oral Interpretation. Krista Price topped the field in Persuasion. Price and Derrick Green won first place in Dramatic Duo. Price is studying elementary education, and the men are communication arts majors. The Cedarville team had taken the sweepstakes competition for the previous five years, but relinquished the title this year, coming in second to The Ohio State University team. Emphasis On Ministry T oward the end of winter quarter and during the spring break, 183 members of the college family ministered with Missionary Internship Service (MIS) or with gospel and ministry teams. In February, the Concert Chorale performed concerts on a one-week tour in the Czech Republic. During break, an MIS team constructed bCuil.dbibngs foCrh~e . Cedarville students ministered to the kids of Inner City Impact. an ean nstlan Center for the Deaf in Jamaica. Gospel teams ministering in churches and schools in the U.S. were the Swordbearers (Chicago), the Kingsmen Quartet (Florida), the Master's Puppets (Indianapolis), and the Lifeline Players (Kansas City). Ministry teams served at the Christian Appalachian Project (Kentucky), Joy Ranch (Virginia), the Master's Mission (North Carolina), Inner City Impact (Chicago), and the Pacific Garden Mission (Chicago). Seven additional students ministered in the country of Nepal. Following spring break, the student body returned to interact with visiting missionaries during the annual Spring Missionary Conference, March 20-24. Featured speakers were Ed Lewis, recruiter for TEAM and former missionary to Eastern Europe, and Grady Toland, missionary to Chile with Association of Baptists for World Evangelism. The theme of the conference was Building Global Values. Engineering Vehicles Get Around In February, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) exhibited two energy– efficient vehicles designed and built by Cedarville engineering students in the Chicago Auto Show in McCormick Place. DOE's display was intended to raise public awareness about the use of new technologies to reduce vehicle pollution and improve the environment. More than one million people visited the auto show. After the show, Cedarville's hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) was displayed in the student booth at the International SAE Congress. The superrnileage car had been on display at Disney World in Orlando, Florida in October 1994. Student engineering teams are preparing for five competitions in May and June 1995. A team will upgrade the hybrid electric vehicle to meet new specifications for the ongoing HEV competition in Detroit. Two new supermileage vehicles will compete in Marshall, Michigan. The aerodesign competition will take place at Daytona Beach, Florida. The mini baja vehicle will compete in Dayton, Ohio, and an autonomous robot in Rochester, Michigan.
