Bob: One very long drive later, our family was stationed in Montana just west of the marvelous Yellowstone National Park of Wyoming. We spent one long day driving the Upper Loop, which included seeing the Echinus Geyser erupt, hiking around the Mammoth Hot Springs, and seeing Tower Falls, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, and gorgeous views of both Upper and Lower Falls. The second full day was spent hiking the Lower and Upper Geyser Basins, which included the pretty colors of the Fountain Paint Pots (bubbling ooze that looked like boiling paint). Though Old Faithful is probably the best-known geyser 12 TORCH / Spring 2001 his son about avoiding the “strange woman.” The flair and flash of financial ease and gambling called out to the traveler at every turn; I encouraged my children to turn away from such things. Sue: I still get a depressed feeling thinking about Las Vegas. All the lights there don’t overcome the spiritual darkness. Rebecca (Becky): I liked the circus and the shopping sales, but, yes, the city was sad and depressing. A Family Vacation ...
