Torch, Summer 1992
A new three-floor, 68,000 square-foot building is being constructed connected to the current 27,000 square-foot Science Center. This new Engineering/Nursing Center will give Cedarville students one of the largest and best equipped facilities of its kind among comparable colleges. Also, important alterations have made the current Science Center more effective. The Science and Mathematics program will benefit with: • nearly double the biology and chemistry laboratory and classroom space. • more faculty offices and conference rooms. The Nursing Department will gain: • clinical, audiovisual, and computer laboratories. • class and conference rooms. • faculty offices. The Engineering Department will acquire: • a series of mechanical and electrical engineering laboratories. • a CAD (computer-assisted design) laboratory. • classrooms. • faculty offices. All three departments will gain laboratory storage and preparation rooms, secretarial support areas, and appropriate storage. The new building will also include a lecture hall and several classrooms for use by other academic departments. It will have faculty and student lounges, an attractive entry, and handicapped accessibility. Cedarville Science and Mathematics graduates: • speak highly of their preparation, especially their extensive laboratory experience. • consistently earn fellowships in major university graduate programs. • have an exemplary record of medical school acceptances. • appreciate the personal attention they received from faculty. Thirteen of the fourteen full-time faculty hold earned doctorates in their teaching fields. Several have continuing research appointments with NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and other entities. Science faculty engage students with the real -world concepts and issues of our material universe, and our God-given responsibility of stewardship. Your Gift Can Count Twice! The Kresge Foundation has issued Cedarville a $400,000 challenge grant. Their grant will be made toward this project if other friends of Cedarville give or make commitments to give the balance needed for this project. With over $5.2 million already committed, we need $1.4 million more to qualify. Your gift or commitment counts most when you make itl But it also counts the second time because 1t helps Cedarville qualify for the challenge grant. To make the most of this opportunity, we need to hear from you soon. Thank you for your generosity!
