CAMPUS NEWS Cedarville College conferred the Doctor of Divinity degree on William J. Rudd. Pictured from left are Dr. Dixon, Dr. Rudd, his wife, Gloria, and his son, David, a 1995 graduate of Cedarville. Also present for the ceremony were Dr. Rudd's son Andy and his wife, Lynn, both 1992 graduates, as well as son Daniel and daughter Angela. Bob and Polly Reese were presented the Cedarville College Medal of Honor. Awards Bestowed At Commencement D uring the 99th Commencement, Cedarville College conferred the Doctor of Divinity degree on William J. Rudd . Dr. Rudd is pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Muskegon, Michigan and a trustee of the College. The Cedarville College Medal of Honor was presented jointly to Bob and Polly Reese of Elkha1t, Indiana. The Medal of Honor Award reads: "Those who know Bob and Polly admire their humility and their desire to make an impact for the cause of Christ from behind the scenes. They exemplify those traits held in high esteem by the Cedarville College family-a deep and abiding love for God, personal priorities that exalt the Lord Jesus Christ, a passion for the spread of the gospel to the ends of the earth, and an exemplary level of professional excellence." The President's Trophy is presented based on mini stry, community and can1pus involvement, athletic achievement, and academic achievement. Todd Entner (international studies; The Philippines), Jennifer Bartosiewicz (English; Mattawan, Michigan), and Stephanie She1man (biology; Wate1town, New York) were awarded the President's Trophy for 1995. The Faculty Scholarship Award was given to Heather Magnuson and Leslie Hack, who both earned their degrees with a 4.0 grade point average. Silvius Receives Teaching Honor Dr. John Silvius, professor of biology at Cedarvi lle College, has received the Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence from the Southwestern Council for Higher Education (SOCHE). Cedarville had earlier presented Silvius with the college's Faculty Scholar Award for 1995. Silvius has published 19 articles in professional journals and has had the abstracts of nine other papers presented at scientific conferences published. The latter is in the second ed ition. In 1984, Dr. Silvius was named Cedarv ille College Faculty Member of the Year. Known for his practice of quickly memorizing the names of his students , Silvius calculates that he has learned names of almost 3,600 students who have taken his classes. 4 Torch
