New Academic Chairs Named C edarville College Academic Vice President Dr. Duane R. Wood has announced new chair appointments of several academic departments. The department chairs will report to the deans of their respective schools, who will, in turn, report to the academic vice president. The five new chairs are: * Dr. Floyd Elmore, chairman of the Department of Biblical Education. Elmore holds degrees from Cedarville College and Dallas Theological Seminary and has been on the College faculty since 1985. Elmore replaces Dr. Jack Riggs , who was named dean of the School of Humanities, Fine Arts, and Bible at the College. * Dr. W. Philip Bassett, chairman of the Department of Education. Bassett joined the Cedarville faculty in 1991 and holds degrees from Plymouth State College, Grace Theological Seminary, and Andrews University. He replaces Dr. Merlin Ager, who assumes responsibility as dean of the School of Social Sciences and Professional Studies. • * Dr. Dennis Flentge, chairman of the Department of Science and Mathematics. Flentge holds degrees from Texas Lutheran College and Texas A&M. He has been a Research Fellow at both Texas A&M and the University of Florida, and served as a Summer Faculty Research Fellow at nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for several years. Flentge has been on the Cedarville faculty since 1980. He replaces Dr. Daniel Wetzel, who has been named dean of the School of Engineering, Nursing, and Science. * Edward Spencer, interim chairman of the Department of Language and Literature. Spencer holds degrees from Ashland College, Faith Seminary, and the University of Dayton and has done additional graduate work at Bowling Green State University. He has been a member of the Cedarville faculty since 1962. * John McGillivray, chairman of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. McGillivray holds his undergraduate degree from Cedarville College and a graduate degree from the University of Dayton. He has been on the Cedarville faculty since 1974 and replaces Dr. Donald Callan, recently named dean of the School of Health and Human Performance. In addition, Pete Reese, director of athletic facilities, has been named athletic director. Reese assumes these duties in the stead of Dr. Donald Callan. Prior to coming to Cedarville College, Reese was athletic director and head of the physical plant at Los Angeles Baptist College. He is a 1960 graduate of Cedarville College. Social Work Program Granted Initial Accreditation The Council on Social Work Education has granted initial accreditation to the Cedarville College social work baccalaureate degree program. This accreditation is retroactive to the 1995-96 graduating class and is valid until June 2002. At that time, the program will be reviewed for continued accreditation. Accreditation will enable students to sit for the social work licensure exam in all 50 states and to qualify for advance standing graduate programs. Academic Vice President Duane Wood says that accreditation "will greatly enhance the professional job opportunities" for students. Cynthia Sutter-Tkel, director of the social work program, and the social work faculty are to be commended for achieving this significant milestone in the development of their program. BMM Candidates Meet On Campus This year' s Baptist Mid-Missions Candidate School was held on the campus of Cedarville College, July 13-31. Candidates represented potential mission fields ranging from the Ivory Coast to Vietnam.
