Cedarville College opened its 1948 base- ball season with a hard fought 4-3 victory over Marshall College at Huntington, W. Va. Marcus Townsley, sophomore pitcher, limited Marshall to eight hits and whiffed six in his first win. Ulsh,Pater,and Shumate connected for two safe blows each to lead the victors. In their second game, and second win, the Jackets downed Villa Madonna of Coving- ton, Ky., 13-7. Larry Brooks was credited with the win though relieved by Carl Watkins in the fourth.Shumate paced the Jackets with a double, single and two walks in five tries. 32
