Making the Difference as Ministers of Music I decided to take a trip like the Israel one when I saw that the kids realized that music was a way to minister with the gospel."-- Charles Pagnard C hristmas 1987, presented a unique ministry opportunity to the Brass Choir--a twenty-five day trip to Israel. Lynell Smith, senior trombone player considered a special moment: "We played in Manger Square in Bethlehem on Christmas Eve, and it was a very uplifting experience." Junior Mark George was struck by the simplicity ofthe area:"We visited the garden tomb in Jerusalem, which was very plain in itself, but at the end of the tour, the guides presented the gospel very simply, and it reminded me how clea God's message is. Even in ou group,we were simple and unpre- tentious with on another, like a family." Director Charles Pagnard sensed a "spirit of service in the group." lie thoughta good way to channel that spirit was a trip with more of a missions emphasis. The trip to Israel made them in- volved with "the fact that musi can be a blessing. This experi- ence made a difference; the Word ofGod became more real, and Bi- ble study was more meaningful." The Concert Chorale had many performances at the college and on tour. Eric Adnams and the rest of the Chorale did their best to glorify God with their music. Musical groups put on many outside perfor- mances.Stephanie Manning and Becky Orton per- formed with the Symphonic Band during the Cen- tennial Library dedication. =162 Opening Portfolio
