Wylie, Kristin Yates, Michelle Zalut, Lynn Zehrung,Lisa Zerby, Daniel The Life ofa Freshman photo by Shawn Mattison R.A. John Stewart helps a fresh- man move in during "Getting Started." What does it mean to be a freshman? It certainly doesn't mean prestige and position. A freshman must endure the hardships of life at the bottom of the college ladder. Fall registration begins the humiliation. The fresh- man must get accustomed to standing in lines for all the essentials: registration packet, room key, clinic information and I.D. Once he possesses these items,a search for the first dorm room ensues. On arrival, he discovers his new roommate is already there unpack- ing and filling the entire boxlike room with his be- longings. The girls discover that their roommate looks nothing like the self described Miss America they expected while the guys find that their roommate is more interested in chess and bio-chemistry than foot- ball and upperclass females. Once adjustments are made though, roommates settle in for a nine month adventure and begin to enjoy each other. The agony is hardly over as long lines and scarce late passes grace the first year of college. Yet as each freshman becomes initiated into life at the Ville, he begins to enjoy his year of pleasure before the time comes to declare a major and take college seriously. — Meredith Clements
