What's It WO TH If"You Can't Take It With You" wer. Wealth. Prestige. Tothe world these are important priorities n life. Butare these the only impor- tant things? In a humorousand drastic manner, the Village Playersshowed that, yes, there is more to life than work. The play"You Can'tTakeIt With You"wasset in the nineteen thirties during the Great Depression when humor wasa lacking necessity. Through the flaky lives and happeningsofthe Sycamorefamily, the Village Players demonstrated that to live life to the fullest is the only way to be truly happy and content. Thetheme ofthe play which wasseen throughout was"enjoy life and whatis pleasurable to you now because you can't take it with you when you die." The props were very authentic and effective; fireworks were used by Mr.Sycamore(Andrew Eastman)asa hobby(Yes,they did set off thesmoke alarmsone night). A live snake had a horrifying effect on Mrs.Kirby, played by Shelly Sutton, during the scene in which Mrs.Kirby and her husband(Gary Childers)came to meetthe Sycamore family for the first time. The cast was talented and superior, playing their parts to the utmost. Martin Vanderhof,at whose house the play takes place, keptthe audience laughing with his quick witand keen perspectiveon life. An example of his quick wit was his refusal to pay theIRS because he felt that he had better things to do with his money! Essie Carmichael(Lori Lindner),in her childlike way, presented an interesting thought with the line,"Life is beautiful if you justlet it nnerisicts and love for people made' hink a •Julie Mulder Fine Arts t-1
