1993 Miracle Yearbook

The Lady Jacket softball team continued its process of rebuilding and finished with a 13-18record. It wasa young team on the field for the second-year coach Kathy Freese with nine ofthe14 players being eitherfreshmen orsopho- mores. Even with the youth movement,itwasthe playofseniors MindyHumbleandJulieRuttthatcarried theclub. Humble lead theteam with a.348batting average and wasnamed to the All-NAIA District22unitasanoutfielder. Shepaced the club in atbats(115),hits(40),and runsscored(20),plus was one of only two players to appear in all 35games. Humble was an honorable mention pick in the Mid-Ohio Confer- ence. Rutt, also an All-MOC honorable mention performer, wasthird ontheteam in hitting with a.341 mark. Her three triplesand20runsbattedintopped theclubtogoalong with a sterling .971 fielding average at first base. Sophomore righthander DiAnn Miller wrapped up her secondfullseasononthemoundbylogging1291/3innings. She completed all 19 games she started and posted a 7-12 record with one save and 2.33 earned run average. Miller demonstrated good control by allowing only 17 walks the entireseasonandshe pitchedoneshutout,a1-0victoryover Wilmington. Joining Miller on the mound wasfellow classmate Julie Sroufe, who experienced her first year in the program. Sroufe was6-8 with a 2.51 ERA in 95innings pitched. One of her more impressive outings came in a 1-0 win over MountSt.Joseph,thenumbertwoteaminNAIA District22. Sroufealso handled thebatwellwitha.342averageatthe plate and 18 runs scored. Freshman utility player Ashli Linkhorn batted an even.300 and tied for the team lead in doubles with six. Ruttand junior outfielder Shannon Wenger weretwo of five players named to the All-NAIA District 22 Scholar- Athlete softball team. Onlyjuniors and seniors are eligible for the honor and they mustcarry atleasta3.50cumulative grade point average.
