rYll 4 '04 ... Adjusting to College Life As the summer drew to a close,the Campus Activities Office became extremely busy pre- paring to makefall quarterasuccessforthe new class of freshmen. They organized a variety of activities to involve thefreshman and tofamiliar- ize them with the new surroundingsand culture. Upon arriving on campus,freshmen were ushered through a maze set up in the gym. The maze involved a multitude of stops; at these locations, students received their post office box numbers,their registration packet,informa- tion about Patterson Clinic, etc. The C.A.O. also arranged to have students drive to the airport to pick up new students, help Chuck in the cafeteria,and run other necessary errandsto make orientation week run smoothly. Perhaps the most helpful element of Getting Starting, however, was that each Small Group Leaderor Helperworea button thatsaid,"1.0.H.," which stands for "I'm Over Here." The idea behind the button was that these leaders were people the freshmen could approach with any questions or requests for help. The C.A.O., group leaders, helpers, and resident assistants all went out of their way to make Getting Started a success.
