A Precedent of Faithfulness Dr. Callan sets a precedentfor the Cedarvillefamily tofollow When one thinks of a cam- pus individual whose tenure at Cedarville College is an ex- ample of the 1993 Miracle theme,"Setting a Precedence," he or she can think only of Donald Callan.He has been a member of the college faculty since 1960: thirty-three years of service as a faculty profes- sor,chairmanoftheHealthand Physical Education Depart- ment,Athletic Director,men's varsity basketball coach, and an active member of several college committees. The hon- orsandrecordshehasachieved in state and national athletics areastandardforyoungermen and women seeking to make their markin collegiatesports. Of today's active NAIA bas- ketball coaches, Dr. Callan ranks fifth nationally in wins. AlthoughelectedtotheHall of Fame of NAIA, NCCAA, Taylor University, and CedarvilleCollege,his histori- calcontribution tothecampus will lie in the birth ofthe Mis- sionary Internship Service. With a heart for missions, Coach Callan led the first MIS trip to the Philippinesin 1970. Since then, his active partici- pation in yearly evangelistic missions trips to various for- eigncountrieshasbeenamodel for faculty,staff,and students to emulate. Paulexhorted Titustoteach young menhow toliveoutthe Gospel in their lives: "...in all things showing yourself to be a pattern ofgood works;...that one who is an opponent may be ashamed,having nothing evil to say of you" (Titus 2:6-8). This biblical teaching example has occurred through Donald Callan's setting the precedent among the students of Cedarville College.
