Cedarville cruised to a 90-65 win over Grace in the NCCAA district opener. The Lady Jackets then knocked off the top two nationally-ranked NCCAA teamson the road to win the district. They upsetNo.2 AnnArbor,77-76,andthenstunnedtop-rankedIndiana Wesleyan,88-84. Based ontheremarkableshowingin the district, Cedarville was given the top seed at the NCCAA Na- tionals.After, beatinghos Concordia81-69intheopener, the Jackets lost a 63-61 heartbreaker to Mid-America Nazarene in the semifinals. They also dropped the consolationgame,73-69,toBartlesvilleWesleyan.Fresh- manforward Karla Kaelber wasnamed to the all-tour- namentteam. The Lady Jackets finished with a 15-18 overall record,butthatisn'ttoobadconsideringthat11ofthe14 players on the roster were either freshmen or sopho- mores.Unbelievably,14oftheirgamesweredecidedby five orfewer points and they wonsix ofthem. 'Weknew thatthis would beaseason whereour young players would get a lot of experience," said Freese. "We are already excited aboutnext year." Kaelber paced theteam in scoring at15.8 points per gameand wasnamed to the All-Mid-Ohio Confer- ence second team and to the All-NCCAA District HI unit.Sophomoreguard MelissaHartmanaveraged11.4 points and was honorable mention in both NCCAA District III and the MOC. Junior forward Christine Copeland averaged a team high8.8reboundsandsophomoreBeckyCaveset aschoolrecord with55blocked shots. RachelHoward, the lone senior on the team,averaged 7.7 points and ranked second on the team in rebounding with her 5.4 per game. JuniorforwardShaundraRandolphearnedspots on the All-American Scholar-Athlete teams for both NAIA Division II and theNCCAA.
