Despite three freshmen and four sophomores in the varsity line-up, Cedarville tied Malone for theteam title butlostin thetiebreaker. It was a valianteffortfortheLadyJackets,especially since they had dropped a 6-3 decision at Malone in the regular season. Cedarville claimed singles flights num- bers two,three,and four in the district tour- nament. Sophomore Melissa Hartman won the second flight while freshmen Hasmine Gmuer and Andrea Anthony took the other two,respectively.AnthonyandGmuerpicked upthewomen'sonlydoublestitlebywinning the second flight. Cedarville and Malone each won four of the nineflightsin the tournament. However, the deciding tiebreaker came when the Pio- neershad seven playersin thefinals to sixfor the Jackets. Angela and Melissa Hartman were voted to the All-NAIA District 22 team. Angela completed her career with a 39-19 singles record while Melissa is now 22-3 after a 12-1 season. The sisters also combined for a 9-2 doubles record. Angela was named an NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete for the second straight year. To be named to theteam,players mustbe ajunior or senior with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or greater. Anthony paced the rookies with a 12-2 singles mark while Gmuer was 9-2. The twosomealsohadanimpressive13-1record in doubles. NewcomerBrooke Frazier had a 7-8 record and sophomoreGwenJudkins was 6-8. The third doubles team of rookie Chris Gerard and sophomore Lynne Kakkuri had a record of 7-4. The women were 10-2 in the regular season and won the Mid-Ohio Conference titlefor thesecond straightyear at3-0.
