Photo by Todd Hill Jackets Qualifyfor NAIA Playoffsfor the First Time in Four Years TheYellowJacketsqualified for theNAIA District22 baseball playoffs for the first time in four years and finished with a 15-21 overallrecord. Cedarville tied for fourth place in the Mid-Ohio Conference standings at 5-9 and earned the sixth and final playoff spot with a 10-12 district record. Sophomore outfielder Stephen Mays was voted the team's MVP after another outstanding season. He led the Yellow Jackets in eight offensive categories which included batting average(.382),at bats(123),runs(31), hits(47),runs batted in(23),triples(6),home runs (3), and stolen bases(15). Maysled the district and confer- ence in triples and was among the leaders in batting average,runs scored,and steals. The Cincinnati native also handled 73 chances in the outfield with just one error. Maysearned spots on the All-NAIA District 22,All- Mid-Ohio Conference, and All-NCCAA District III teams. Joining him on those squads wassenior catcher Dan Brown. He batted .355 with two homers,19 rbi's and a team-high 11 doubles. Sophomore catcher Josh Green missed half the sea- son with a knee injury but still managed to bat .340. Junior shortstop PaulMelvin wasone ofonlytwo play- ers to play in all 36 games and hit .278 with 23 runs scored. Sophomore righthander Clint Miller anchored the pitching staff and gained All-NCCAA District III honors. After jumping out to a 4-1 start, he finished 5-5 on the year with a 4.17earned run average with 56 strikeouts and 33 walks. Senior Todd Seljan closed out his career on the mound with a 5-6 record,6.78 ERA,and a team-high 9.74 strikeouts per nine in- nings. Cedarville dropped its only two gamesin the NAIA District22tournament. TheJacketsopened with a 10-5 loss to host and eventual champion Mt. Vernon Nazarene.Theywereeliminated 16-1 byaFindlayteam they had sweptin a doubleheader early in the season. *Mark Womack
