Photos by Todd Hill Best Offensive Campaign in School History The Lady Jackets struggled through a 9 -26season, but it was the best offensive campaigninschoolhistory.Cedarvilleposted a school-record .347 team batting average whichbetteredthepreviousmarkby12points setbythe1990clubthatwent29-5andowns the NAIA District 22 title. Nofewer than eight players posted a.300 battingaverageorhigher.Juniorutilityplayer DiAnn Miller batted .461 which wasthe sec- ond-highestaverageeverturnedinbyaLady Jacket. She alsoled theteam in atbats(115), runs scored (39), hits (53), and steals (7). Miller wasthe top hurlerontheteam as well witha7-11 pitchingrecord and a4.69earned run average. For her efforts, Miller was voted to the All-NAIA District 22 and All- NCCAA District III teams. Freshman outfielder Jennifer Cassidy joined the hit parade with a .449 batting averagetorankthirdonCedarville'sall-time list for a single season. Fellow classmate Erika Miller hit.391 withateam-highfour triples and two homers while junior in- fielderJenniferSloan hit.365 withateam- best33runs batted in. Four other players were .300 hitters. That list included freshman outfielder Melissa Sprankle(.333),junior outfielder Penni Ruhl(.315),sophomore outfielder Shelly Coffin(.314),and junior shortstop Lisa Coe(.311). Sloan,a social work major,wasnamed an NAIA District 22and Mid-Ohio Con- ference Scholar-Athlete. The elite group includes juniors and seniors who have a cumulativegrade pointaverageofatleast 3.50. Despitethe poorrecord,theLadyJack- ets were never shut out and they scored ten or more runs in a game seven times.
