1995 Track and Field Review Cedarville College successfully defended its National Chris- tian College Athletic Association women'strack and field title, plus the Yellow Jackets had seven NAIA All-Americans to highlight the 1995 outdoor season. The Lady Jackets won the NCCAAbannerforthefourthtimebyblowingawaythefield by 120pointsonthehometrack. Thewomenalso wonback-to-back titles in 1985 and 1986. For the second consecutive year, the Yellow Jacket menfinished second in the NCCAA. The season brought to a close the record-setting career of StephanieSherman. The Watertown,New York native wasthe NAIA Outdoor TripleJump NationalChampionfor thesecond time and broke her own school record in the process with a42- foot effort on her finaljump. Sherman leaves the Lady Jackets program as a ten-time NAIA All-American. Joy Beitler wassixth in the highjump,and Julianne Pletcher finished sixthin the 10,000 meterrun asboth earned NAIA All- American honors(top six finishers). On the men's side,Chad Ederwassecondinthe5,000meterrace walk,KevinConkelwas fifth in the marathon,BobbyPolack wasfifth in the triplejump, and Pete Simons placed fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Sherman was named the Outstanding Female Performer of the NCCAA meet after winning three individual events and being part of both winning relay teams. A ten-time NCCAA champion,she broke her own meetrecord in the triplejump at 38-feetand5-inches to go along with victories in the longjump and 100 meter hurdles. PaulOrchard wasvotedNCCAAWomen'sCoachoftheYear, and senior,JenniferZenner,waspresented the Wheeler Award as the outstanding female track and field Athlete ofthe Year in theNCCAA.Zenner,whowasalso the WheelerAward winner in cross country,was partofthe NCCAA winning4x400 meter relay team plus was named to the NAIA and NCCAA All- America Scholar-Athlete teams. Pletcher won both the 3,000 and 5,000 meter runs in the NCCAA meetwhile Beitler claimed the highjump title and also ran on the4x400 meter relaysquad along with Debbie Trimble. OtherNCCAA winners were MichelleBurson in the10,000and Courtney Kilburn in the discus. Joining Sherman on the 4x100 meter relay team were Laura Glessner, Sarah Jackson, and Sylene Graves. Tiffany Shaw and Cindy Hasselbring joined Zenner as NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athletes. TheYellowJacketmen had fiveNCCAA All-Americans. The individual winners were Conkel in the 10,000, Polack in the triple jump,and Jon Plush in the pole vault. Chris Melkonian and Linton Ellis joined Plush and Polack on the winning4x100 meter relay unit. During the winter indoor season,Cedarville had four NAIA All-Americans (top six finishers). On the men's side, Joe Cunningham was second in the pole vault. In the women's division,StephanieSherman wassecond in the triplejump,Joy Beitler wasfourthin the highjump,and MichelleBurson placed sixth in the 5,000 meter run. Mark Womack track and field 167
