1995 Women's Tennis Review TheLadyJackettennisteamrolledtoa7-4recordandfinished a close second in the Mid-Ohio Conference Championship. CoachPamJohnson'sunitwasinthehuntforanNAIA National Tournamentberth again despite being very young. The roster included two juniors,four sophomores,and four freshmen. Juniorperformer,MelissaHartman,moveduptothenumber onesinglesspotandresponded witha9-4recordtouphercareer markto31-7.Shewasvoted totheAll-MOCteaminbothsingles and doubles. Sophomore Hasmine Gmuer earned the same honorsfrom the MOC after going 11-3in the number two slot. She won the Flight No.2singles title in the conference tourna- mentand is now 20-5 over her two-year career. Sophomores Andrea Anthony,who was 9-5 in singles play, and Christine Gerard, 7-7, held down the numbers three and four positions,respectfully. Freshman MaryWolfeachieved an outstandingrookieseasonbygoing10-4and winningtheMOC's fifth flight. Lesley Nester,another newcomer,was 6-5 in the number six slot. Walsh totalled 37 points to cop the MOC Championship while Cedarville had 35 points to finish second in the six-team field. The Jackets had players in five singles finals and two doublesfinals,butthey were only able to claim the two singles flight championships. Thethirddoublesteamoffreshmen,WolfeandJodiMuehling, won their firstseven matchesoftheseason beforedroppingthe MOCfinal. Hartmanand Gmueralsolostin thefinalofthefirst flightand hada6-3-record. Anthonyand Gerard were5-2asthe number two tandem. Hartman wasnamed an NAIA All-AmericaScholar-Athlete. To be named to the team, players must be a junior or senior varsity performer withacumulativegrade pointaverageof3.50 or greater.
