First, Best Fore-Ver Friends First there wasGod. Pastor Walton told meaboutHim, and he said He would be mybestfriend-always. Same- _ ow,I think I kind of knew.that. God's never done anything to makemefeellike:Ile-wasn'tmybestfriend. . Then there was Lance, and he *at--my second best- - friend.-In elementary school, wespent every recess togeth --- d in thesummer,we were pioneers,rebels, and sci ists together.. .Luke Skywalker andIlan Solo. In high-school,I made some different best_triends, Tim and Josh. The three ofus were tightlifid-even had - nicknamesfor each other. And then ofall things,girls cameintothe picture. Mom had told meseveraltimes, "Thefriends you makein college willbe yourfriendsfor the rest of your life." As so,often with my parent's words, I did not realize they had spoken the truth. After only a month away from tiome, mom and dad automatTEallybecame my bestfriends. Gender wasno longersuch a big issue. Friendship began to take on a whole new role. In many ways,friends became family and family became friends. Like many of you and your friends, we have tasted both thesweetnessand bitternessoflifetogether. The friendships here have been spaned in the gaiety of youth, grown in the soil of common ex rience, and matured*the light of adversity. I know with gradu- ation will pap...what probably hak been,the apex ofmy social experience. Even now, cla.‘sei-, activities, Friday nights, Monday mornings, basketball games, and Young's runs seem like blurs, but my friends are lucid in my mind and very much alive in my heart:-T - thank God for this institution offriendship.
