Honors'Day Below: Dr. J. Murray Murdoch presents Phillip Snyder with the Edmund Burke Award. On May 5, 1995, Cedarville College cel- ebrated its 31st annual Aca- demic Honors Day chapel. Purposefully scheduled to coincidewithParents'Week- end, Honors'Day was held in the James T. Jeremiah Chapel to recognize out- standing scholarship among the student body. After a musical prelude and proces- sional from the brass choir, Dr. Dixon opened the cer- emony with prayer. Aca- demicVicePresident,Duane Wood,followed with a rec- ognitionofgraduatesfinish- ing with honor. Commen- dation for achieving a grade point average of 3.50 or higher was given to 104 se- niors. The main program consistedofthepresentation of awards with individual departments recognizing academicexcellenceineach major. The Alumni Schol- arship was awarded to an outstanding freshman, sophomore,orjuniorstudent enrolled in each academic department. Other awards were given in each respec- tive field to acknowledge exceptional scholarship and character. Theservice wasalso used to announce the Faculty and Staff Member of the Year. Faculty MemberoftheYear wasconferred onDr.Daniel Estes, an associate profes- sor ofBible. Dr.Estes,who also serves as the Assistant Academic Vice President, has proved to be an excel- lent teacher of God's Word in the classroom. In addi- tion, he has been active in the ministry and in writing. Staff Member of the Year was bestowed on Sherry Coy, who currently serves as the textbook manager in the bookstore. Mrs. Coy formerly worked as secre- tary for Don Rickard and has had a consistent minis- tryofencouragementto mis- sionaries and students dur- ing her years at Cedarville College.
