The physics major is de- igned much like theengineer- ng major, but emphasis is dded in the physics and math- matics areas. Students can ursue either a physics major, hich will help them prepare or research careers or gradu- te school,or a physics educa- ion major, which will prepare hem to enter either graduate school or a secondary educa- ion teaching position. "These majorshave beenon the backburnerforaboutthirty Gy Ben Bcnnfiatt years, and it is really exciting to see them come to reality," said Dr.Dan Wetzel, chairman ofthe Science and Mathemat- ics Department. Academic Vice President Dr. Duane Wood said the church music program was al- waysemphasized in the music department, butbecause ofthe new Ministry Center, it was time to make it a major. It is similar to a combined music and ministry major with a core ofelectivesin any area the stu- dent wants to pursue, such as multimedia technology,coun- seling,or ministry. Dr. Vernon Whaley, Asso- ciate Professor ofChurch Mu- sic, was hired to oversee the new program. "The whole idea is to ag- gressively pursue those stu- dents interested in church mu- sic, because the need for full- time ministersofmusic iscon- tinually growing. The church music major is designed to prepare students for church ministry, graduate studies in a music discipline, or seminary. Wood described the college's satisfaction with the Elizabeth Rogers studies diligently in Chuck's. new programs: "We have been in a periodofyears where we have added new majors, both with a secular profession emphasis in the traditional lib- eral arts and in Christian min- istries areas. These new ma- jors further strengthen our foundation."
