hurting and sick--"It provides a wonderful outlet for parenting." She, along with the other godly, compassion- ate women with whom she works, has many opportunities to provide spiritual input into the lives of students. She has watched many tears fall, laughed with many students, and encouragedoradmonished manyothers. Kaercherbelieves "this is the mostwonderfulage to be in--the mid to late 50s," because she is around the age ofmoststudents' parents. Stu- dents feel that they can talk openly with her. However, her ministry does extend to the parents. "Some of our best friends are the parents of stu- dents with insurance ques- tions." Through interaction with parents, shecan calm their fears and assure them that al- though many miles separate them from their sick son or daughter, their child is being cared for. Encouragement plays a large role in her daily work. How does she know how to dealwiththecircumstancesshe sees while at work, such as a very ill student or a bill that will not be fully covered? She reliesonGod to give her words of wisdom in each situation. "Beforeawordisonmytongue, You know it completely,0 Lord,"asPsalm 139says. She often shares her life verse:"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you;I will uphold you with my righteous right hand"(Isaiah 41:10). She and her husband pray for the stu- dents that each one meets at work. After all, what better waytoimpactlivesandto"keep our perspective young," than to work with young adults and to help influence them in a godly direction. staff metngt% oft4E /Eat 147
