According to AssistantProfessor of Physical Education and Coach John McGillivray, this year's men's soccer team included a numberofveteran play- ers, and had strong leadership in Senior co-captains Cliff Scott and Matt Towle. The season saw the team get back on trackfrom the year before as they posted a10-10-2final win/lossrecord. Theteam finished at 3-4-1 in the Mid-Ohio Con- ferencebeating Mt.Vernon,Findlay, and Shawnee State. The team faced solid competition early in the season, losing their first two contests at Wittenberg(0- 3)and Tiffin(0-5). OnSeptember 17,the Yellow Jackets played their first home game, winning 1-0 over Mt. Vernon. ThegameagainstMt.Vernonwas not only the team's first victory of the season, but also marked Coach McGillivray's200th win and histwenty- Giving it Their Best Shot Men's Soccer third season as head coach of the CedarvilleCollegemen'ssoccerprogram. McGillivray said,"The first 100seemed much easier than the second 100, but it was great for the guys to win that game and exciting for me." McGillivray has been recognized numerous times for his coaching abilityandteamsthathavedem- onstrated outstanding sportsmanship. Theteam wentonfrom theirfirst win to astreak offive more, butthen had several losses. In retrospect the low and high pointsoftheseason bothcameinthe last few games. Looking back, McGillivray said,"I think the low point would haveto beourcloselosstoIndiana Wesleyan which,we thought, put us out of the National Tournament. That was whatthecaptains had setbeforethe other guys asourgoalandthey were obviously very disappointed." Although this was discouraging, newscame soon after that Cedarville had received entrance to the tournamentby meansofan"atlarge bid" which is basedonthescoresofthegames and the opponents that the team has played. This gave the squad a new burst ofenergy. Cedarville lost 0-1 in the first round of the NCCAA National Tourna- ment, andthen metIndiana Wesleyanfo the third time in the season.
