2002 Miracle Yearbook

DR.DIXON When students walked into chapel on Monday mornings, they expected to see one person: Dr. Dixon. Each year, Mondays were reserved for Dr. Dixon to address the college family. For the 2001- 2002 academic year, the theme for his weekly messages was "Transforming Culture with Christlike Compassion." It was a fitting theme in light ofthe events ofSeptember 11 and the country's need to turn to God. Dr. Dixon began the series by relating the relationship of believers to a compassionate Christ. His messages discussed the relationship to His hurting, fallen, and doubting followers. For Thanksgiving Day chapel, Dr. Dixon spoke about the compassionate Christ and His thankful follower, emphasizing the importance and rarity of thankfulness among Christians. Dr. Dixon also spoke ofthe ways believers can imitate Christ's compassion. He discussed how Christians could hear with Christ- like compassion: being approachable and genuine. Dixon explained that it is important for believers to pray as Christ prayed, which involves praying for believers and nonbelievers. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day,Dr. Dixon brought a message entitled "The Compassionate Christ and the Marginalized in Society." He asserted that it is always wrong to hate and encouraged students to "make sure we're on the right side—God's side" when dealing with issues of racism and oppression. The messages allowed students to learn how to be like Christ and how to illuminate Christ in the culture. compassionately. 150 Chapel A heart for the students and for the family of Cedarville is always seen on Dr. Dixon's face.
