Dr. Dwayne Wood addresses the students who achieved awards or honors in chapel. Posing for a picture with a professor is one of the many bonuses to Honors Day. HONORS DAY A stage filled with bright yellow flowers amid green potted plants and the Brass Band playing in the background greeted the students gathered in the Jeremiah Chapel on May 3,2002. Soon Dr. Dixon and the faculty entered dressed in their academic regalia; colorful tassels and varying velvets adorned the black robes. The thirty-eighth annual Academic Honors Day Chapel began with much ado. The twelve education departments awarded the academically outstanding students from their programs on that day. Several new awards were added to the day's program, including the Reverend Henry and Lilian Hutchinson Christian Education Award in the Biblical education department,the Donna Purple Memorial Award in the education department, and the Charles and As all the faculty meet on the stage, they recongnize the students who have chosen to excel in all they do. Margaret Clevenger Piano Award, the Spiritual Leadership Music Award,and the Morley R. Halsmith Memorial Award in the music department. The presentation ofseveral other awards continued the morning's recognition ofdeserving students. Christian Ministries and Alumni Relations both gave awards to several students. Also,in honor ofDr.Jeremiah and Ruby Jeremiah, Dr.and Mrs. Dixon presented the James T.Jeremiah Award and the Ruby Jeremiah scholarship. Dr. Charles Clevenger summed up the central reason for the Honors Day program. He reminded the student body, both those receiving awards and those watching, to Whom all the glory for the various achievements belonged. "Be all that you can," he stated,"but don't touch the glory," the glory belongs to God." Chapel 157
