Led by Senior Sergio Reyes,Cedarville Men's Cross Country ran well this fall. They received multiple votes for a national ranking and had an All-American in Reyes. In the 12'h Annual Friendship Invitational, the Cedarville University Men's Cross Country team took first place. Additionally,they won first place in the Wilmington Classic, beating out Shawnee State by a single point. The men also took third in the American Mideast Conference only behind Malone and Rio Grande. After taking last season off, Reyes came back this year to win seven ofhis nine races. He placed second in the All-Ohio Championships and fourth in the NAIA Nationals. Reyes won both the NCCAA title, and the American Mideast Confer- ence. In the AMC championship, he took first by 33 seconds,and the team finished third overall.'Other top finishers for Cedarville were Dan Campbell, Allen Bruder and Joshua Mark. To win the NCCAA individual title, Reyes needed an all-out sprint on the home stretch to win by a mere three seconds. Bruder,Campbell and Dave Balch also finished 17th, 22nd,and 31"respectively. Finally, in the NAIA meet, Sergio,the sole representative from Cedarville,took fourth and earned an NAIA All-American honor. He finished only nineteen seconds out offirst place. In the 2000 campaign,the coaches in NAIA named Reyes the Division II Male Runner ofthe Year. The Men's Cross Country team will lose senior Justin Whitaker, Bruder,and Mark,in addition to Reyes. Each played a major role on the team,so this year's freshmen will look to fill their shoes in years to come. Freshman Dan Campbell, who is a promising runner for Cedarville, said,"It was lots offun; we ran well this year,and we look to improve. We have lots ofgood freshmen that will step up next year." Sophomore Andrew Goodenough finishes 34th for Cedarville in the NCCAA 8,000 meter race. RUNNINGTHE RACE 138 ATHLETICS
