2003 Miracle Yearbook

The Lady Jacket volleyball team started their season late in August with a win over Clearwater Christian and continued their winning ways into November with a 28-17 overall record. Their 11-5 conference record was enough to place them third in the American Mideast conference standings. Many tournaments highlighted the season including the 15th Annual Invitational Volleyball Tournament at Cedarville. The Jackets won two oftheir first four games over Grace and Mountain State but lost in the semi-finals to Indiana Wesleyan. Other tournament highlights included finishing second in the Huntington invitational as they won 3 out of4games and only lost to Taylor University. Finishing runner-up in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament was also a major accomplishment. Their only loss came to tournament winner Indiana Wesleyan in the finals. Melissa Holland,Carrie Hartman,and Courtney Williams were named to the all-tournament team. The team dominated in their wins,taking 20 oftheir 28 wins,3-0. They finished the season in second place for both kills per game and attack percentage in the conference. Individually, Holland finished second in kills with 4.49 per game and took first in attack percentage with .421. The volleyball players also had many great memories to take with them offthe court. Holland said,"I've never experienced a team having so much love for each other and the game at the same time." Williams continued,"The team was so close this year - so much fun to be around. We are still friends offthe court." The Lady Jackets received many season honors. Thompson and Hartman were the October 21-27 players ofthe week. Holland was picked for American Mideast Conference South Division First Team,Hartman made Second Team,and Thomp- son earned an honorable mention. Additionally, the coaches ofthe league named Cedarville freshman Lauren Mable Freshman ofthe Year. Kelsey Jones backs up Paula Thompson as she jumps above the net for the return.
