2003 Miracle Yearbook

The Cedarville Yellow Jackets Women's Basketball team finished the year with the best season in the history ofthe school. With an overall record of31-3,and a conference record of 17-1,they were ranked third in the NAIA. A 21-game winning streak, which continued into the NAIA tournament, highlighted the season. Coach Kirk Martin earned the American Mideast Conference(AMC)Coach of the Year,and Emily Delimpo was awarded Honorable Mention honors and named to the All Freshman team. Sophomore Kari Flunker and senior Julie Stauffer were each named to the AMC first team,and for the second straight year, Kirsten Rossotti captured AMC Player ofthe Year honors. She finished her career with Cedarville all-time records in points with 2,229 and rebounds with 1,159. With 22 points from Flunker and 21 from Rossotti,the Yellow Jackets defeated St. Vincent 91-75 for the AMC championship. The win marked the first conference championship for the.Lady Jackets in Cedarville history. Soon following,the team traveled to Sioux City,Iowa,to compete in the NAIA tournament for the first time in the history ofCedarville Women's Basketball. With their number three ranking and 31-2 record,they earned a number one seed in the 32 team bracket. In the first game against Morningside, Rossotti dominated with 37 points and 21 rebounds.The Jackets finished the game winning 80-69 and advanced to the next round. In the following game,Cedarville lost to Sioux Falls to end their record-breaking season. The women's team had an incredible run led by many different players who stepped up when the time came. "Everyone contributed just a little bit ofleadership in her own individual way.I don't think there wasjust one leader ofthe team.I guess God was definitely the ultimate leader!" Flunker commented.
