2003 Miracle Yearbook
On a dreary early May day,the Lady Jackets' tennis team went out and defeated Ohio Dominican for Cedarville's second straight NAIA Regional IX tournament. This win marked the third tournament victory in the last four years. The team got wins from two of the three doubles partners as•well as wins from Carrie Hartman, Jolene Nourse,and Jen Roman to give Cedarville the 5-2 victory. The women's team put up a 15-7 overall record while winning 75% of their American Mideast Conference games. Freshman Jodi Kraker burst onto the scene taking the first position and competing with all other team's top players. Hartman and Bethany Staten played 2and 3 respectively. The team was a mixture of both young and more experienced players, which added to the overall success. Kraker said,"Over the season,our team grew a lot in terms of skill. Halfof us were rookies and with the leadership of the older players, it was fun to see how we came together and were successful." In the future, the many rookies of this year will develop into the leaders of years to come. By the end of the season,the team compiled an impressive list of achievements. Senior Jen Roman set a Cedarville win record with 52throughout her play for Cedarville. Hartman received the NCCAA National Tournament Sportsmanship Award,as well as NCCAA All American in doubles, singles,and AMC honors in singles. Kraker was named an NCCAA All American and AMC singles and doubles player. Freshman Bethany Staten and junior Sarah Rogers received AMC awards for their doubles play. Overall,for their outstanding play and academics during the season,the whole Lady Jackets team was named to the impressive NAIA Scholar team.
