Men's Residential Life Endless lines ofcars, minivans, and overloaded pick-up trucks pulled into dorm parking lots as the men ofCedarville University flooded back into the residence halls. The unique experience ofliving in one ofthese dorms left residents changed forever. Young men wisely spent hours playing video games, joking with friends, watch- ing movies, and every once in a while, squeezing in sometime for homework. Many events, such as unit meetings, open houses, pick-a-dates, and sports filled the remaining free time. Getting little or no sleep turned into acommon ritual because of the vast amounts ofpeople and activities going on late into the night. Complete strangers quickly became good friends, and lasting relationships developed in weeks. Being away from home presented a sudden change for most men on campus. They adapted to doing laundry, having no more home-cooked meals, and sharing space with a new roommate. Although living with many people in such a confined area could be a shocking change, the ability to be on their own adequately compen- sated for all the adjustments. "I enjoy the independence we getfrom living away from home. We can make our own decisions on what and when to do things," freshman Keith Redmon said. The computer and phone also played an important role for communication with family and friends. Young men spent significant amounts oftime not only playing computer games online, but also keeping in contact with high-school friends and girlfriends either on campus or at other schools. The residence hall was a beneficial experience for the men who lived on campus. Dorm life provided a chance to learn from and live with other guys and develop close-knit relationships during their four years at Cedarville. < Justin Clouse and Brad Fernce are thankful for a chance to relax back in the dorm.
