Intramural Sports For many students, the main athletic challenge and competition remaining for them in college was the exciting world ofintramural sports. The chance to go head-to-head in a physical contest and relive the past days ofhigh school glory drove students to excel both on the courts as well as out at the fields. The fan attendance was less and the skill level not quite equal with the varsity teams, but the heart and enjoyment ofthe participants was the same. Cedarville offered a wide range ofsports, teams, and leagues in which to play, and students had several opportunities to participate each season. In the fall, athletes played everything from soccer and football to sand volleyball and tennis. Basketball and volleyball highlighted the winter season, while the school also offered bowling and soccer. As the vast amounts ofsnow melted, students partici- pated in the spring sports ofbadminton, golf, more sand volleyball, and table tennis. Each season and sport had different leagues varying by skill level, and at the end ofthe regular seasons, the top teams were put into a playofftournament. Winning a Cedarville intramural t-shirt was the goal ofeach season, and each student anticipated the glory associated with being champion ofan intramural sport. Joel Smith said,"Intramural sports took the stress out ofthe normal work routine, and became the highlight ofeach week." Intramurals gave students at every skill level the chance to compete and play a sport. Each game was a time to get out, relax, exercise, and have fun with fellow Cedarville students while doing something they enjoyed. This year's sports combined the desire ofathletics with the spirit offun to create a time for all students to participate in competition throughout the year. During the intramural basketball games, players aggressive sides come out as they go in for a shot and a foul. STUDENT LIFE 193
