The Elms play for Cedarville students at a concert for Homecoming as well as at the SGA elections later in the year. Elms lead singer Owen Thomas plays the guitar during one of their concerts at Cedarville. Guest Concerts As students repeatedly filed into the Jeremiah Chapel for the myriad ofconcerts offered by the school, the fact that they loved music was blatantly obvious. Tickets went fast as popular music groups performed on campus. The music covered a range ofstyles suited for the variety ofstudent tastes. Whether students preferred a harder style or a mellower one, they found enjoyment at the concerts given on campus. Not only did many ofthe Cedarville students attend the concerts, but community members also enjoyed these shows oftalent. Guest artists included groups and individuals such as Jars ofClay, the Elms, Shaun Groves and Michael Card. These talented musicians brought much excite- ment and vitality to campus, which the students always anticipated. Jars ofClay and the Elms performed at the student Homecoming. Making a special guest appearance at SGA chapel,Jars ofClay talked about how they formed their group, and they also gave advice to students. Later in the year, the Elms came back and performed a free concert as part ofthe SGA elections. Although Shaun Groves postponed his concert from the beginning ofthe year until January, it still proved to be a great time for the students. Michael Card came during Alumni Homecoming weekend. During his concert, he recorded a session for his radio program and included a question and answer time. He ended the concert with requests from the audience. Other concerts included more classical styles, such as Jubilant Sykes and clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein. No matter their tastes, students found a suitable style to enjoy together. They jammed to the lyrics ofthe Elms and relaxed to the music ofAlexander Fiterstein. Each musical influence offered an opportunity to praise the Lord through song and melody. Jars of Clay lead singer Dan Haseltine views concerts as a way to glorify God and share the gospel with those in attendance. STUDENT LIFE 197
