^ Cheryl Elliott and Elissa Dvorak spend time visiting with Greenewood Manor resident Judy Jenkins. < Cedarville student Jennifer Muka meets with other college students from Central State and Wilberforce for a weekly Bible study. COMMUNITY MINISTRIES Throughout the week and into the weekend Cedarville University gave students the opportunity to become involved in community ministries and to make an impact in the lives of many people. Whether they chose outreach ministries or tutoring opportunities, the students received the chance to serve God. In these ministries they built relationships with both the young and old in the community in order to share Christ's love. Students reached out to the community through such programs as Open Heirs, the Hannah House,Adopt-a-Block,the Extra Mile,Dayton Gospel Mission and Bible studies at Central State University, emphasizing evangelism and prayer to the many people they met. Tutoring offered chances for students to aid local elementary, junior high and high school students with their classes. Additionally, students could help teach English as a second language. At Cedarville High School and Cedar Cliff Elementary,as well as in Springfield, the opportunities to build relationships with students abounded as they received tutoring. Chinese college students and Jewish immigrants learned English and heard about Jesus' love for them through their English lessons. Ministries, which built relationships between students and the elderly as well as between students and youth, abounded in the area. Students who wanted to spend time with the elderly joined the Adopt-a-Grandparent program or aided at a myriad of nursing homes and care centers. Those who wished to develop relationships with youth assisted in various Bible studies, mentoring programs, discipleship ministries and youth hang-outs. Kathryn Mowrey, ajunior Psychol- ogy major and member ofThe Barn team,a youth relationship program, stated, "One of the things that I loved about The Barn is that I got to know people who I would not likely have spent time with otherwise." Cedarville University's major goals in ministries included building relation- ships and evangelism. Many times the ministries allowed for these goals to occur simultaneously. 232 MINISTRIES Clowns for Christ entertains children in hospitals. churches and schools.
