STALEY LECTURE As Dr. Bill Brown expressed in a three-part lecture series, the Christian's decision should not be to withdraw from or conform to culture but to engage it with the heart and mind ofChrist. Dr. Brown emphasized "thinking worldviewishly" in the areas oforigins, meaning, morality, and destiny. While the rest ofthe world scratched its head about the meaning oflife, he said that Christians possessed the ultimate answers to the ultimate questions. Dr. Brown approached the students with a polished, professional candor, and he also created a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere. Frequently, he had the student body roaring with laughter, and then within a few minutes, seriously contemplating their attitudes toward worldviews. The reaction from the students was enthusiastic and positive. Freshman Lamar King commented,"The big picture of all Dr. Brown said stuck with me forever. We needed to build a bridge to Jesus, and the best way to do it was to learn the ways ofthe world without being consumed by the world." Freshman Katie Fickes agreed saying,"I really enjoyed Dr. Brown as a speaker. Not only was he informative about the subject of worldviews, but following Paul's model in Acts 17, he challenged us to use our knowledge to engage our culture." Students and parents take the opportunity to introduce themselves to Dr. Brown and make him feel welcome on campus. > 280 SPRING SEMESTER
