2003 Miracle Yearbook
STAFF OF THE YEAR Jerry "Butch" Gleason never expected to earn StaffMember ofthe Year honors. When Gleason came to chapel on April 11,he rushed in after returning from two emergency calls to the fire department where he served as the President ofthe Firemen's Association and as a Cedarville volunteer firefighter. As Gleason sat in the balcony with his coworkers during chapel, his family quietly sat downstairs near the back to surprise Gleason when he went to accept his award. As a student began presenting the award,Gleason slowly realized that they were describing him. "I was speechless and surprised," Gleason said. A staff member in the automotive department for ten years, Gleason has helped many students with a variety oftasks. Gleason liked to encourage people and help them do things they think they cannot do. "I believed people can do more than they thought they could," Gleason said. Gleason provided students the opportunity to do more through instructing a new volunteer firefighter or assisting a helpless student with automobile trouble. "Many staff members went out oftheir way to help students, and they were all worthy ofthis award," Gleason said. "[I learned by winning this award]that people are watching you no matter what you do," Gleason said."We need to act a way that is pleasing to the Lord."
