NIGHTAT THE VILLE Jarid Mayo and his friend show off their "Stone Age" outfits. Red carpet, limousines,funky outfits, lights, cameras,and body guards covered the entrance ofthe Dixon Ministry Center as the Student Government Association presented the Elliv Awards for the second consecutive year. Deviating from standard clothing styles for the event, Cedarville students attended en masse, dressed as characters ranging from members ofGuns'n' Roses to Eminem. The cast ofNewsier greeted the packed chapel to start the event as the characters performed a rendition ofone oftheir popular songs complete with choreography. The artistry ofthe tumbling was not overshadowed by the vocal efforts ofthe students on stage. "I liked how Elliv got some dancing on stage this year," Jenny Hummel said. As the opening act disappeared offthe stage, in came the hosts for the night, SGA President Dave Wenzel and former SGA President Seth Martin. Afterjokes about SARS and Funkville,the hosts serenaded the crowd with a medley ofsongs, such as,"I Can Only Imagine,""Onward Christian Soldiers," and "Friends," all redone with their own humorous lyrics. The award winners for categories ranging from Best Actor to BestSGA Video came to the podium and accepted their trophies. Presenters included the University Catalog Kids,Dean Kirsten Gibbs,the Estes brothers and the flag prancer, and Matthew Davis. Rob Chestnut,Deb Berruti, Carrie Hartman,Barry Chamberlain, and Brittain Bollenbacher were among the many award winners. Interlude performances,such as a Jennifer Lopez hit song and dance routine, helped keep the event interesting. Jackson Five and the pizza guy from Chuck's also made an appearance. Halfway through the show,Dr. Dixon appeared dressed as the Cedarville Yellow Jacket and accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award. The Elliv Awards ended with Matt Thornburg accompanied by the Gospel Choir singing U2's hit song,"I Still Haven't Found WhatI'm Looking For." SPRING SEMESTER 293
