INDOORPICNIC Students arrived at the 2002 homecoming banquet under umbrellas. The original plan was a casual picnic behind the SSC,but a gray day turned into a rainy evening.SGA went to work and transformed Chuck's and the upper and lower levels ofthe SSC by setting up additional round tables and decorating with floating candles, daisies, and ivy."I think the rain only added to the atmosphere ofHome- coming. Inside picnics are fun," Josh Wallace said. The rain relented in time for the Ferris wheel, paddleboats, and carriage rides to open outside. Laughing groups stood in line under the overcast sky, glad for the entertainment as they awaited the 9:00 Jars ofClay concert. The announcing ofthe Homecoming Queen took place on stage before the concert. The three nominees,Janelle Criner, Emily Gayer, and Jyoti Philip, were not too nervous to have fun during the banquet."I loved the atmosphere of Homecoming...the fact that it was casual and everyone was so relaxed despite the rain...and what could go wrong with carriage rides and the Ferris wheel!" Janelle Criner said. A few minutes before nine, the nominees sang "I Love You,Lord"together, then took deep breaths and walked out onto the stage in front ofseveral thousand people. The Knauffs,as Grand Marshals, proclaimed Jyoti Philips Homecoming Queen."I remember thinking, Er? Did they say Jyoti?" she said."I was really surprised!" After the concert, students returned to the SSC for the after party, where they watched The Little Rascals and ate caramel apples and pie. Despite the rain,SGA produced a successful night."I'm so thankful for this experience because I've been able to see a little bit ofwhat SGA has to do,"Homecoming Queen Jyoti Philips said."You have to have a desire to serve the student body to be in such a position." Students unanimously agree that Jars of Clay is the best concert Cedarville has ever had. FALL SEMESTER 49
