GOD'S CALLING On the first Monday ofNovember, tired and stressed students filed into the Jeremiah Chapel for the start ofthe 2002 Missions' Conference. The conference began with a chapel led by Dr.Paul Jackson, the General Director ofEvangelical Baptist Mission. Jackson challenged students to pursue passionately the knowledge ofGod. In the evenings, Dr. Warren Wiersbe,a conference speaker and author, gave various messages filled with humor and truth. Wiersbe's first message,"How to Make a Mess out ofYour Life," provided key points from the book ofRuth. "It is better to be hungry in the will ofGod,rather than running away," Wiersbe said. Wiersbe also touched on 1 Corinthians 3 and the book ofJonah. Wiersbe gave a vivid description ofJonah'sjourney away from God's calling when he said,"The prophet becomes a passenger; the passenger becomes a sleeper; the sleeper became cargo;the cargo became fish food; the fish food became vomit." "I liked how [Wiersbe]challenged everyone. It was applicable to every indi- vidual no matter where God places them in life,"junior broadcasting major Julie Marshall said. Throughout the Missions' Conference, students had opportunities to interact with missionaries from various countries and mission organizations. Following the evening services, students also had the chance to stop by displays and talk to the missionaries about potential careers. An ice cream social encouraged students to spend time with those who work hard for the cause ofChrist in other countries. The 2002 Missions' Conference challenged students, faculty, and staffto glorify God and follow His will. Wiersbe summed up the Conference with these key points from 1 Corinthians 3:"It was an assigned work; it was a scheduled work; it's a costly work; it's a satisfying work;and [it is] work to glorify God." Dr. Dixon accepts his award from ABWE for his work and ministry at Cedarville University. FALL SEMESTER 59
