Women's Residence Life ,9v Mace fa- ice °timely( Living on campus distinguished the college years from any other time in a girl's life. Many girls found living with other wothen wasone ofthe best aspects ofcampuslife.Itallowedthemto"connect with the girls at a much deeper level," sophomore Lindsey Selegue said. New students asserted that they had to adapt to dorm life. Sarah Hall, a freshman, remarked,"When I first arrived, I was a bit overwhelmed. I walked into my dorm room and thought,'Wow!Thereis no way that all of the junk myroommate and I brought would fit into sucha small space." Once settled, however, many new students appreciated the way dorm life helped them develop friendships. FreshmanSharmaBanks commented, "While living inthe units, I have been ableto meetpeople quickly and establish relationships that can continue to develop and strengthen throughout the year." Unitmates and hallmates provided support. Girls were constantly nearbyto encouragetheirstrugglingfriendsbytaping verses and Reese's cups to their doors or by letting them know they were praying for them. Also, RD's and RA's provided mentoringrelationships. Meredith Irving in Printy wastheonlynew women's RD, and as junior RA Bethany Doupe observed,"Sheissoft-spoken,godlymodel for us RA'sand for the girls. She goesout of her way all the time by making us deliciousbrowniesand sendingusencouraging notes. We couldn't have asked fora better RD." RA's also worked hard at developingmeaningful relationships withtheir fellow residents. Many girlstookthechanceto learn and grow with their friends. Finally, dorm life provided unforgettable memories. It allowed girls to analyze late- night DTR phone conversationswiththeir roommates over buttery kettle corn. It offered fellowship around pizza and CS/ episodes, praise and worship with guitars and peanutM&M's,and open houses with cookies and giant stuffed gorillas. Any inconveniences of dorm life lost significance alongside the friendships and memories dorm life produced.
