r or several years, the Lady Jackets' volleyball team has consistently upheld a tradition ofexcellence, winning countless championships and tournaments under the strong leadership ofCoach Theresa Clark. However,the fall 2006 season brought an exciting change:Melissa Hartman acting as Head Coach.Hartman's skills proved to everyone that she was more than capable of maintaining this award-winning institution. Hartman mentioned that although some areas ofthe position,such as"stretching the girls academically and spiritually, without crushing their spirit;'was a challenge,shefound that the team showed her"significant respect"and made the season an "overwhelming blessing."The blessed nature ofthe season was clearly evidenced in their second straight NCCAA championship win and the subsequent naming ofCoach Hartman as Coach ofthe Year.Other achievements included Junior Sarah Zeltman being named Player ofthe Year by both the AMC and NAIA Region IX division and adding the consecutive home win count to 51 in a sweep againstTiffin. Junior Melissa Parmerlee noted Coach Hartman's positive influence on the team.She said that Coach Hartman showed them that every time we step on to the court,we do so ready to worship the God that has created,sustained,and loved us:' Freshman Liz Sweeney agreed,adding,"I'm so glad that during myfirst year of playing volleyball at Cedarville I have had the privilege of being instructed by herCoach Hartman shared a mutual respectfor the team's character.She encapsulated the season when she said that the girls"have put their hearts on the line for each other.They have stuck together as a unit,a true team,working out differences and keeping God's Glory the main priority!' seituot riet Ode4 &wig/ n Junior Sarah Zeltman sets a ball that's sure to dizzy the competition.Zeltman asserts that she's only part ofa wonderfully talented group of girls.She said,"Every player i5 essential to the success ofthe team,but that success is a blessing from God." Sophomore Sarah Sheers serves as a backup for Freshman Maija Hampton,as she , prepares to bump the ball. Hampton says,"Our team goes out there and plays togethe' because we love and trust each other • Senior Julia Bradley prepares to hit the ball that Junior RachelThompson sets up for her. Bradley,a four-year player, not only received recognition for her efforts in the athletic sphere,but also merited a significant amount ofappreciation from her peers a5 I she was nominated for this year's"Best Female Athlete"at Elliv.
