r f you attended any game in which the Cedarville cheerleading squad was on the sidelines,it would be impossible notto have gained a greater appreciation for the lengthsthese women and men wentto in order to energize the crowds. These students put in extra energy to uplift the fans. Besides cheering atthe basketball games,the squad spenttime at soccer and volleyball games passing out cookies and candy tofans,and held a reunion for past CU cheerleaders during homecoming.Freshman Rachel Judd noted,"We also helped out at track meets cleaning equipment, checking teams in,or whatever else needed to be done.We gave the players and coaches bags of candy and water before some oftheir games and spent time decorating their locker rooms." The cheerleading squad not only offered an opportunity to serve and encourage,but also provided an opportunity to make greatfriends.Sophomore Julie Brandtcommented,"My favorite part about the squad is that I was able to build so many close friendships,that if I hadn't have cheered, I would never have made.It was also alwaysfun to look into the crowd and see everyone's school spirit as they cheered the teams on:' Starting the year with many new faces,the squad had to work very hard during practices in order to pull everything together and become unified. Four-year squad member senior Heather Kelton said ofthe squad,"It was encouraging to see so many new people come in this year and work together.Our team bonded atthe beginning ofthe year and not only grew in skills, but also in friendship and love for each other.It is sad to be leaving them and graduating,but I am so glad I cheered these lastfour years and can't imagine my college experience without it."
