r ake a large group of women with a large diversity oftalent but with a common team and love for the Lord and you end up with the Lady Jackets Track and Field. Senior Lindsay Stone said ofthe girls,"We all had similar priorities when it came to competing. First we were there to represent Christ and be a testimony to those we competed with. Secondly,we would practice and compete with excellence,knowing that our next meet would be another opportunity to use the talents God has given us:' These priorities were clearly shown in an excellent season for the women's track team.The Lady Jackets were named champions atthe NCCAA IndoorTrack & Field for a second time,outscoring 13 other teams on the field. Senior Sarah Ensslen and junior Courtney Reid each won two events,while overall the Lady Jackets had 15 All-America performances. Nine Lady Jackets achieved NAIA All-America honors and placed 6th overall at the NAIA Indoor Championship.Later atthe Cedarville Open with 11 individual wins, the team was led to victory despite a rainy meetcomplete with two lightening delays. The ladies placed 5th at the 14-team Miami Invitational,with Samantha(Maat)Modderman and Sarah Ensslen grabbing victories in the 5000 meter race and the triplejump.The ladies later went on to win the American Mideast Conference Championship at Houghton for the first time since 1998, placing above three-time defender Malone College.The Lady Jackets coach,Jeff Bolender,was honored as the AMC Women's Coach ofthe Year.The girls posted six individual first-place finishes at the meet,including two record settings by Ensslen and Modderman. Senior Bonnie Wright said ofthe ladies,"Throughout the year, every person on the team had a wonderful attitude and made itfun to be together.We all worked hard,and it paid off:' A. Deb Sweede runs the next leg ofthe 4x200 relay. She says,"Running relays are by far myfavorite event. I get way more excited because there are three other girls trying to win also. This4x200 was my last relay because the next time Iran it I tore my hamstring!"
