"Tengo famiglia," was a phrase often heard in Cedar- ville's Fall theatre production of Over the River and Through the Woods. The play was written by Joe DiPi- etro, who was born and raised in New Jersey. The play was first produced in April 1994 and has since been presented in several theaters across America. Dipi- etro's comedy is not only witty and entertaining, but it also teaches the audience about Italian culture and the importance of family. The audience enjoyed watching the interaction between the main character, Nick Cris- tano,and his grandparents. Although the audience may not have known about Italian culture beforehand, they could still relate to the difficultiesthefamily experienced. Students identified with Nick Cristano's desire to begin a new life on his own,even if that meant leaving hisfamily. Likewise, grandparents and parents related to Nick's grandparents and how difficult it is to say goodbye to family members. This play tells the story of one family, but it also reminds us of our own rela- tives and family stories, and that's what I think makes this play, and the experi- ence,so special." —Heather Barker Senior Theatre Major 1.
