The art building, believe it or not, is one of the major things that drew me to Cedarville. I feel privileged to work in such a beautiful and functional space!" —Sammie Smith Sophomore Studio Art Major CARNEGIE CENTER Working in the Fine Arts building has always been one of the highlights of being an art or design major. Within the pastfew years, the building experienced quite afew changes. The center was built in 1908 and was origi- nally a library for Cedarville residents and students. The building was named after Andrew Carnegie who donated books to countless libraries throughout the United States. The name later changed to the Fine Arts building, but after the renovations, it returned to the original name, the Carnegie Center. The final renova- tions were concluded just before the fall semester, and students looked forward to seeing the improvements and additions. Several students were concerned that the building wouldn't have the same atmosphere, and that it would lose the historical presence it once had. However, they were pleased to find that the renovations were mostly to fix structural problems within the build- ing, and that the character had remained the same. 1.
