Program Objectives
Candidates who complete the
Principle Licensure
graduate
certificate are educational leaders who have the knowledge and
ability to promote the success of all students by:
• Facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and
stewardship of a school vision of learning supported by the
school community.
• Promoting a positive school culture, providing an effective
instructional program, applying best practice to student
learning, and designing comprehensive professional growth
plans for staff.
• Managing the organization, operations, and resources in a
way that promotes a safe, efficient, and effective learning
environment.
• Collaborating with families and other community members,
responding to diverse community interests and needs, and
mobilizing community resources.
• Acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.
• Understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger
political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.

Licensure and Certification
Those who obtain principal licensure may apply for the Ohio
Principal License. This is not a degree program.
Admission Criteria
Cedarville University invites applications to the principal
licensure graduate certificate program from graduates who
have received a master’s degree in education from a regionally
accredited or otherwise approved university, have at least two
years of successful K–12 teaching experience in the grade level
for which the teacher is seeking the appropriate principal license,
hold a current teaching license, and who desire to become
principals or building-level administrators. The graduate degree
may be a Master of Education, Master of Arts in Education, or a
Master of Science in Education.
Applicants should present strong academic records and have a
profession of faith in Jesus Christ. Each applicant will be reviewed
on an individual basis.

Clinical Requirements
The capstone experience for the principal licensure certificate
is a one-semester internship. This internship will most often be
completed in the “home school” of the intern and supervised by a
cooperating administrator. This internship is a three-hour course.
Transfer Credits
Up to 11 credit hours are permitted to be transferred into this
program.
