L i t t l e Miss Pettit is a Jamestown native. Helen F l e t c h e r , Friends Missionary to Kenya Colony, - Africa, was guest speaker at the March m e e t i n g of the Baptist Missionary Society. She s howed color slides tc illustrate her comments. The m e e t i n g was held at the home of Mrs. Paul Gar- ringer wi t h t h e president, Mrs. Bernard Knecht Sr. pre­ siding. Roll call was answered with a B i b l e v e r s e about peace. Miss Ruth Garringer sang a solo, "Precious Mem­ ories. ”Devotions were in the hands of Mrs. John Robison. The society is selling van­ illa to purchase a coffee urn for the church kitchen. The group signed get-well cards for Mrs. Thomas Lasley, a former pastor's wife who is now residing in Ashland, and Mr. George Stolzenberg, a present a s s o c i a t e of the church. Refreslfments with St. Pat­ rick’s Day appointments was served by the hostess to Mrs. Lina Church, Mrs. Ralph De- voe, Mrs. W i l l i a m Jones, Mrs. B e r n a r d Knecht Sr . , Mrs. HarryMiller, Mrs.Hom­ er Persinger, Miss Nora Pow­ ers, Mrs. John Robison, Mrs. David Robison and Mrs. Vio­ la Little. Xenia St. Dial 4-7144 New Number Stickers Are Mailed to Area Users New t e l e p h o n e number s t i c k e r s were mailed the week of April 1,1957 to sub­ scribers in Xenia, BelJbrook, B owe r s v i l l e , Cedarville, Yellow Springs, Jamestown, and Sp r i n g Valley by the Ohio Bell Telephone Com­ pany. Walter F. Peters, the Xenia area plant wire chief, said a group of employees had been wo r k i ng for several weeks g e t t i n g the new numb e r stickers, along with the in­ structions for placing them on the dial, ready to mail. On Sunday April ,7, new ex­ change names will become a part of every t e l e p h o n e number in this area and the first two letters of the name must be dialed followed by the five-figure number. All Xenia telephone num­ bers will be p r e f i x e d by DRake 2; Bellbrook becomes VInewood 8; B o w e r s v i l l e changes to GLenview 3; Ce­ darville numbers will 'start wi t h SOuthfield 6; Yellow Springs-Clifton numbers will be Rockwell 7; Jamestown changes to ORchaxd 5; and Spring Valley becomes OX- bow 9. Peters said the new number stickers are easily placed on the dial and the instructions sent along with the stickers explain how to do this. L a r g e r business firms are b e i n g visited by company representatives who are plac - ing the firm's new number on each telephone. In Jamestown the first figure will change from the present ‘ 4’ to ‘ 5’ plus the Addi­ tion of the exchange name. This plan will adapt this area to the numbering system now in use in most l a r g e metropolitan centers, and will eventually enable local telephone users to dial certain calls di­ re c t to distant cities.
